A Helper is a specific role within Scouting. Helpers are adults who give informal support to help deliver Scouts. They don’t need a criminal record check or internal check and are not recorded on the Scouts.org.uk digital system.
Anyone helping out at Scouts must read, understand and commit to following the Yellow Card. This is our code of practice for all adults in Scouts, where we commit to making the safety of young people our priority.
If you are a helper who is assisting with hut and grounds maintenance, then please make sure you are aware of the following important information before you start.
- If you will be working alone, then for your own safety please take a moment to consider this lone working advice. 3rdHarpRA-operating-alone-lone-adult-v1.pdf
- Whatever task you are undertaking, please take a moment to conduct a simple personal risk assessment in order to minimise any risk. Most importantly do not attempt any task that you do not feel competent to complete, or that makes you feel unsafe.
