Scouts
Scouts are a go-getting group of young people aged 10 ½ to 14 who:
- Master new skills and try new things
- Make new friends
- Have fun and go on adventures, at home and abroad
- Explore the world around them
- Help others and make a difference, in their own communities and beyond
Week in and week out, they gather in groups called Scout Troops to conquer the small task of changing the world.
Our Scout Troop is led by a team of 5 Scout Leaders, supported by Young Leaders from time to time.
Scouts enter from Cubs or the big outside world in the term after they are 10 ½ years old. They stay in Scouts until the term before they are 14½, at which point they go to one of the District Explorer Scout Units, one of these (Shackleton ESU) is based at our hut.
The Troop has 30 to 36 Scouts, and they are split into Patrols – with names of the patrols based on animals. The Troop meets weekly on a Monday evening at the 3rd Scout HQ. Evenings start at 7:30pm, and usually ends at 9:00pm.
The Troop consists of 5 Patrols, each led by the Patrol Leader and deputised by an Assistant Patrol Leader. Patrol Leaders are responsible for maintaining order within their Patrol by setting good examples of dress and behaviour. These positions are decided upon by the leadership team, dependant upon attendance, behaviour and attitude.
Within the Troop, we follow the Scout Association’s programme for the Scout Section. The programme consists of a range of activities, which we aim to cover when planning it using a variety of methods. In addition there is a very large number of badges and awards which Scouts can gain.
